Salvage can sometimes be mixed up with ‘search and recovery’ services. It is important to know which service you truly need. Salvage is classified as the rescue of a vessel, it’s crew of its cargo from a disastrous scenario; while search & recovery is the act of finding and recovering a possession (be it a whole ship or a small item) that has been lost.
There are different classifications of salvage services. Afloat Salvage is the process of helping remove excess water that is overtaking a boat. Offshore salvage is categorized as the re-floating of a ship that has sunk (or is sinking) in open waters.
